optimized press releases, writing press releasesEvery writer uses his or her own creativity and writing style to add voice to a piece. Voice is something I am not talking about today. Instead, I wanted to talk about the barebones or essentials of writing press releases. Like most other things in life, there are some basic guidelines that all optimized press releases have to follow in order to be successful in spreading the company or person related news.

First, comes the headline. Use no more than ten words to summarize the contents of the press release. Standing out from the sea of other optimized press releases is key. Second, comes the dateline, which gives the originating city and date of the release. Third, comes the opening paragraph. Here the writer gives the who, what, when, where and how quickly and in an interesting manner.

Then comes the body, which goes over the rest of the important information in descending order, meaning the less important stuff will be found at the bottom. Finally, it is time to close the press release by summarizing the major points again. Writing press releases should always follow these steps.
